Which taxes apply when using Printful?

Depending on where an order is being shipped and whether it’s considered domestic or international, different types of taxes may apply. These charges are based on local tax regulations and help keep your store compliant and running smoothly. This article breaks down the different taxes you might see depending on your customer’s location.
Sales tax
Orders are subject to sales tax in two cases: when shipped within the US or when imported to the US. We charge sales tax in most US states, as well as the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
Value-Added Tax (VAT)
VAT is a consumption tax that is applied to orders sold locally or shipped across the borders of the European Union’s 27* member countries, the UK, Switzerland, and Norway, as well as to orders imported to these countries from other non-EU countries, such as the US.
In contrast to the US sales tax system, VAT is applicable at each stage of an order’s production. The applicable VAT rate can vary and ranges from 0% to 27%.

Taxes in Canada
All items printed and shipped within Canadian borders are subject to local taxes. The applicable tax rate depends on the order’s “ship to” address in Canada. Learn more about taxes on sales in Canada.
Taxes in Australia and New Zealand
All items printed and shipped within Australia and New Zealand are subject to local taxes, which are 10% and 15%, respectively. Learn more about taxes on sales in Australia and New Zealand.
Taxes in Japan
If your order is fulfilled in Japan and shipped to a Japanese address, you’ll see a 10% consumption tax added at checkout. This is required by Japanese tax law and applies to all domestic orders within the country. We don’t charge consumption tax if your order is fulfilled outside of Japan, even if it’s shipped to a Japanese address
Taxes in Singapore
We’re required by law to charge a 9% GST (Goods and Services Tax) on orders with a delivery address in Singapore.
Taxes in other countries
Printful won’t charge taxes on orders being shipped to other countries that are not mentioned here. However, orders may be subject to customs fees based on each country’s import regulations.
