Do I need to register for a LUCID number for selling within Germany?
The German Packaging Act (VerpackG) is a law designed to reduce packaging waste in Germany. It applies to all businesses and online sellers who ship packaged goods to customers in Germany.
If you’re using Printful to fulfill your orders, we’ve got you covered—you don’t need to register or pay extra packaging fees yourself. We’re registered in the LUCID system and cover all required packaging fees for shipments we fulfill and send to Germany, including warehousing products.
If you fulfill your products with Printful only
- No need to register your business with the German Packaging Registry.
- No need to pay packaging, disposal, or recycling fees.
However, you do need to manually submit our LUCID registration number to the marketplaces you use:
- Printful LUCID ID - DE4402313676935
If you use other fulfillment providers or ship products yourself
You can’t use Printful’s LUCID number for products not fulfilled by us.
You’ll need to:
- Register your business with Germany’s Central Packaging Registry (LUCID).
- Make sure any fulfillment partner you use is also compliant with VerpackG.
If you already have your own LUCID number but only sell Printful products, you can still use Printful’s ID.
If the marketplace asks for proof
Some marketplaces may ask for:
- A reason why you’re using a LUCID number that isn’t yours.
- Producer details like company name, VAT ID, and address.
You can:
- Share our invoice (company info is listed there).
- Provide this letter explaining that Printful handles VerpackG compliance on your behalf.
