Why was my product removed from Printful? (Data retention update 2025)
As of September 9, 2025, Printful will begin cleaning up old and inactive products in your My Products library. This update improves product visibility and helps keep Printful fast and efficient. No products are deleted right away, you’ll always have 30 days to keep the ones you still need. Removing unused products also helps us reduce storage costs, keeping prices low and performance high for your business.
Your store listings and your saved design files are not deleted, making it easier to recreate the products if needed.
What products will be removed?
-
Products with previous orders
Will be removed if:- No new orders have been placed in over 2 years, AND
- No new activity (edits) has been made in the past 1 year
-
Products with no orders
Will be removed if there has been no new activity (edits) for over 1 year
When a product is scheduled for deletion, you’ll have a 30-day grace period before removal. During this time, you can choose to retain the product.
How do I keep a product from being deleted?
During the 30-day grace window, products scheduled for deletion appear under the To be removed tab in My Products. To keep a product in this tab, you must click Retain product. This will extend it for 1 more year.
If no new orders or edits occur during that year and the product still meets the deletion criteria, it will be scheduled for deletion again.
Note: When a product is scheduled for deletion and appears in the To be removed tab, you won’t be able to edit or manually delete it. To make changes or remove the product sooner, click Retain product first.
What happens if I get an order for a deleted product?
When Printful removes a product, it’s only deleted inside Printful.
- If the product was published: the listing in your stores remains active and visible to buyers.
- If the product was never published: it only exists inside Printful and will be permanently deleted.
If a customer places an order for that listing after the Printful product has been deleted, the order will still come through. In Printful, it will show up in the Other orders tab. From there, you can open the order, recreate the product, and fulfill it as usual.

Other FAQs
Do draft (unpublished) products get deleted, too?
Yes. Draft (unpublished) products will be deleted as well if they meet the criteria. Only published ones remain in the stores as unsynced listings.
What counts as activity on a product?
Any edit, like changing the description, editing the design file, updating mockups, or modifying details, counts as activity. Once a product is edited, it is considered active again.
If I edit a product or get an order during the 30-day retention period, is it automatically unscheduled for deletion?
No. Once a product is scheduled for deletion, the only way to keep it is by clicking Retain product, which extends it for 1 more year. Editing the product or receiving an order during this period will not remove it from the deletion schedule.
Will I be notified if products are going to be deleted?
You’ll get one email before the first cleanup, and afterwards you’ll always see products scheduled for deletion clearly marked in your dashboard. To avoid overwhelming stores with many products, we won’t send repeated email reminders afterwards.
Can a deleted product be recovered?
Deleted products cannot be restored, but your design files always remain safe in Printful, so recreating them is quick.
What about seasonal products?
You can retain them during the grace period or refresh with a quick edit so they’re ready for next season.
Is this allowed under the Terms of Service?
Yes. As outlined in our Terms of Service, Printful may maintain and optimize the Service, including managing inactive items to preserve performance and reliability. Before anything is removed inside Printful, you’ll see a 30-day grace period in My Products → To be removed, and you can keep any item by selecting Retain product.
