How can I create a product with Printful?

Create unique products with Printful in just a few easy steps. Choose the product from the catalog and use our Design Maker to customize your design. Finally, select mockups, provide a title and description, and set the price effortlessly.

Step 1: Select a product to sell

Choose a product from the Printful catalog. When selecting a product, consider factors such as available sizes and colors, product type, and fulfillment location, as these can affect production and delivery times.

If you’d like to learn more about a specific branded product, you can also check the manufacturer’s website for additional details and material information.

Step 2: Upload your design

Upload a high-resolution image of your desired artwork or design, ensuring it meets the pixel requirements specified for each particular product. You can find these requirements in the side panel of the Design Maker when you click Start designing.

Note

You can add up to 20 layers (designs) to each print area for most products.

Step 3: Place and position your design

Adjust the size and placement of your design using the side panel to select your preferred alignment. Keep in mind that the alignment tool will affect your entire design file. Ensure that your main design elements are centered within the file.

Step 4: Choose your colors and sizes

Next, select the color options you want to offer to your customers. Click Select variants and choose the colors you want to make available for this product. All sizes of the selected colors will be automatically added to the product.

Note

The maximum number of product variants for one listing is 100.

To adjust the availability of product sizes, navigate to the Size section within the same menu. Simply uncheck the sizes you wish to remove from the product. Additionally, you’ll find the overall availability of each color and size variant listed there.

After completing the design process, click Preview in the top right corner to view a mockup image of your design on various color variants. You can preview mockups in two different color modes: RGB (bright and vibrant) and CMYK (realistic, closer to the printed result).

Note

When you select a setting in Mockup color mode, you’re also choosing the color mode in which the mockups will be uploaded to your sales channel.

Once you’re happy with it, click Save product to proceed to the next step.

Step 5: Choose mockups for your listing

If you’re using a supported integration, select the mockups you want for your product from the Mockup Library.

Note

The mockups from the Mockup Library will be added in the order you select them, with the mockup in the first position becoming the title mockup for the product. If you’ve reached the maximum number of mockups allowed, you’ll need to remove some of the selected ones before adding new ones.

Step 6: Edit your product details and prices

During this step, you can adjust the product details, including the title, description, and price. You can also select the option to add the size guide to your listing.

Preview the pricing of each variant before publishing. Customize the pricing table columns to suit your needs by selecting or deselecting the column options.

Retail price: The price that your store customers will pay for the product.
Profit: The amount you will make from each sale (calculated as your retail price minus the Printful production price).
Profit margin: The percentage of your retail price that becomes profit.
Production cost: The Printful production price displayed in the Printful Catalog. This is the amount that Printful will charge you to print the product (in addition to the shipping charges).

You can adjust the retail price for all variants at once or individually by hovering over each variant’s retail price.

Tip: You can set a default profit margin in your store settings before publishing.

Step 7: Publish the product to your store

In the final step, Shopify and Etsy users can choose from several options for out-of-stock variant visibility.
